  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • ¾ cup shortening
  • ½ cup molasses
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • ½ teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 teaspoon allspice
  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg

Cream together the brown sugar and shortening until completely combined, then stir in the molasses and egg.
Add the dry ingredients slowly, mixing the whole time to make sure it is well-combined.
Cover and chill for an hour.
Preheat the oven to 350F.
Shape dough into rounded balls, then roll in the white sugar before placing on a lined baking tray.
Bake for 13-15 minutes. Let cool for a minute and then enjoy!
