South of the Border Barbecue Sauce

This sweet and spicy sauce goes really well on chicken!

  • 2 tsp. vegetable oil
  • 1 garlic clove, pressed
  • 2 C. ketchup
  • 1/2 C. packed brown sugar
  • 3 Tbs. Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 C. lime juice
  • 1 4 oz. can chopped green chilies, drained
  • 2 Tbs. chili powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp. ground cumin

Heat oil in medium saucepan over medium heat. Add garlic. Cook 2 minutes or until onion is tender. Stir in remaining ingredients; return to a boil. Reduce heat to medium-low. Simmer covered for 10 minutes. Using basting brush, brush barbecue sauce on food during the last 10-15 minutes of grilling to prevent burning. Discard any remaining sauce used to baste raw meat.

Yield: 3 cups

  • Directions are confussing. How much onion--and do you mean return (the oil and onion, or garlic, or what) or bring to a boil?
