  • 4 peeled Bartlett pears, halved and cored
  • 4 cups apple cider
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 4 inch ginger, sliced
  • 1 tsp. nutmeg
  • 4 whole cloves
  • 1 star anise, halved
  • 1 cinnamon stick, halved
  • 1/4 cup toasted walnuts, chopped

In a 4 quart saucepan, combine cider, honey, ginger, nutmeg, cloves, star anise, cinnamon stick, and pears together over medium-high heat. Stir until honey is dissolved. Gently add in pear halves and simmer for 20-30 minutes covered. The pears should be fork-tender. Remove from heat and allow to cool. Refrigerate the pears in the liquid overnight to deepen the flavors. Serve each pear halve with walnuts in each core hollow and poached liquid spooned over the top.
