This soup is spicy and delicious. Not only is it good any day of the week, but it’s the perfect remedy to any cold. The horseradish will open your nasal passage excite your tastebuds at the same time.

  • 2 lb. smoked ham, diced
  • 1 hamhock
  • 1 ½ C. sour cream
  • ¼ C. fresh horseradish, grated
  • ¼ C. flour
  • ¼ C. dill, chopped
  • 2 russet potatoes, diced
  • 2 leeks, trimmed, sliced
  • 1 yellow onion, julienned
  • 4 tsp. garlic, minced
  • 2 Tbs. butter
  • 2 Tbs. parsley, chopped
  • 4 eggs, boiled
  • 2 sprigs marjoram
  • 1 bay leaf
  • Salt and pepper

Boil the ham hock in 8 cups of water for an hour. Pour the water and hock in bowl and set aside. In the same pot, melt the butter and saute the leeks, garlic, and onions until they’re tender. Pour in the liquid (no hamhock), potatoes, marjoram, and bay leaf. Bring this to a boil. Reduce the heat to a simmer for 30 minutes. Take out the marjoram and bay leaf. Puree the soup with a blender. In a small bowl, whisk together the flour and sour cream. Add ½ cup of the soup and whisk. Pour this into the soup and stir until it thickens. And the chopped ham and garnish with dill, parsley, and boiled eggs.
