Spiral Herb Bread
Ingredients
- 1 lb. loaf frozen white bread dough
- 1 tsp. olive oil
- Bread Filling:
- 1 Tbs. butter or margarine
- 1 clove garlic, crushed
- 1 1/2 C. fresh chopped parsley
- 1/3 C. chopped green chives (or green onions)
- 1 Tbs. fresh minced oregano (or tsp. dried)
- 1 tsp. salt
- Pepper to taste
- 1/4 C. grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 egg, lightly beaten
Directions
Brush all sides of bread dough with oil, then thaw and rise as directed on the package. Make the filling below. Herb Filling: In a skillet, melt butter the butter, add garlic, sauté
1 minute. Add parsley, green onions, salt, pepper and oregano. Sauté about 3 minutes until vegetables are softened. Cool. Stir in cheese and all but 1 Tbs. of the egg (reserve rest for later). Grease a 9 x 5 inch loaf pan, set aside. Punch dough down and turn onto lightly floured surface, let rise 5 minutes. Roll onto 14 x 9 inch rectangle. Brush dough with some of the reserved egg and spread the herb filling to within 1 inch of the edges. Roll the dough up, starting from the 9 inch side, pinch to seal edges. Place on the pan, brush with egg. Bake for 40 minutes at 375 degrees F. Cool on a rack. Serve warm.
