Squished Spiders have a crunchy, gooey, salty sweetness that screams "dead bugs!" Based on a marshmallow treat recipe, this party-pleasing lunchbox-friendly dessert is quick, yummy and easy to make.

Ingredients

  • 1/4 C. butter
  • red food coloring gel
  • 5 C. marshmallows
  • 4 C. crisp rice cereal
  • 1 1/2 C. potato sticks
  • 1/4 C. chopped candy corn
  • 1 pkg. chocolate almond bark coating or chocolate melts
  • hot cinnamon candies

Directions

Combine cereal, potato sticks and candy corn in a bowl. Melt butter in a pot over medium heat until barely bubbly at the edges. Remove from heat. Add red coloring gel until butter is dark red. Add marshmallows and stir until liquefied. (Reheat slightly if the marshmallows aren't melting.) Pour over cereal mix. Stir until just coated. Drop in teaspoonfuls onto wax paper. Cool. Melt chocolate. Dip the spiders in the chocolate. Return to wax paper. Add cinnamon candy eyes. Ta-da! Squished spiders!
