  • 3 pints fresh strawberries
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 2 ¼ cups flour
  • 4 tsp. baking powder
  • 2 tbsp. additional sugar
  • ¼ tsp. salt
  • 1/3 cup shortening
  • 1 egg
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 2 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 1 ½ cup melted chocolate of your choice

Slice your strawberries into halves and coat with ½ cup of sugar.
Put those to the side and preheat your oven to 425°F.
Grease a round cake pan with butter or nonstick cooking spray.
In a large bowl combine remaining dry ingredients, flour, baking powder, 2 tbsp. sugar and salt.
Toss in the shortening in small pea sized pieces. Add the egg and milk and stir till all combined.
Put batter into pan and bake for 15-20 minutes. Let your cake cool completely.
Cut your cake in half and layer one piece on top of the other.
Place strawberry mixture between the two layers, as well as on top.
Finish your cake by spreading whipped cream on top of strawberries.
Melt your chocolate and use a spoon to drizzle across the top.
Put these in the fridge to set and chill then serve.
