When assembling a cookie tray, strawberry thumbprint cookies are very popular. These cookies are a great way to use your homemade preserves. The cookies add color to any plate and will be a sweet treat to have after a meal. The cookies are popular during warm months when fruit is fresh, but are also delicious around the winter holidays.

  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs (separated)
  • 1 1/2 cup flour
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 3/4 cup crushed walnuts
  • 1/2 cup strawberry jam

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Cream butter and sugar.

Add egg yolks and vanilla.

Slowly add flour.

Shape one-half inch balls and dip in egg whites.

Roll in nuts.

Place cookies on a cookie sheet one inch apart. Press thumb into middles of each cookie and insert 1/2 teaspoon jam.

Bake 15 minutes.
