This recipe was given to me by my mother-in-law. It's a favorite potluck dish at work.

Ingredients

  • 6 cabbage leaves
  • 1 lb. venison or pork sausage
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tsp. onion powder
  • 1 Tbs. Italian seasoning
  • 1 tsp. garlic powder
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 6 slices bacon
  • 1 can Italian diced tomatoes
  • Parmesan cheese (optional)

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Put cabbage leaves in large pot of boiling water. Boil 2-3 minutes until leaves are limp. Lay on paper towels to drain. In medium bowl, mix sausage, egg, onion powder, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Divide into 6 portions and roll into oblong sausages. Wrap each sausage with a bacon slice. Place in center of cabbage leaf and wrap. Place fold-side down in baking dish. Pour tomatoes over top. Fill can half-full of water and pour around sides and between each sausage. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes. Turn off oven and let sit for 15 minutes. Serve hot. Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese if desired.
