Heat oil in a 2 quart pot with a tight fitting lid over medium heat. When oil is hot, place three kernels in pan and cover. Once the kernels have popped, remove cover, stir in sugar and remain popcorn kernels. Replace the cover and wait for the kernels to begin popping. As the kernels pop, alternate between removing the pan from the heat and shaking it, then placing it back on the heat. It is important to keep the pan moving to prevent burning the popcorn. When all the popcorn kernels have popped, sprinkle with salt and enjoy.
