Sweet and Salty Southern-Styled Hushpuppies
Serving Size / Yield
- 1 C all-purpose flour
- 1/2 C white sugar
- 1/2 C cornmeal
- 2 tbsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/8 tsp ground yellow pepper
- 1 cup very finely chopped red onion
- 1/2 cup very finely chopped green pepper
- 1/2 cup very finely chopped green onion, green tops only
- 1 egg, beaten
In a large mixing bowl combine flour, sugar, cornmeal, baking powder, salt, and pepper. Mix these ingredients together thoroughly.
Next add in the onions, peppers, onions, and egg and stir thoroughly.
Cover and refrigerate for about 2 hours.
Shape the dough into small balls.
Heat your deep-frying oil to 330 degrees and drop the balls into the oil.
Fry for about 4 minutes until the hushpuppies turn golden.
Place on a paper towel to soak up some of the oils and then enjoy.
