Sweet and Sour Red Cabbage

This is a traditional Pennsylvania Dutch recipe.

6-8 servings

Ingredients

  • 1 medium head red cabbage, shredded
  • 4 slices bacon
  • Dressing:
  • bacon drippings
  • 1/2 C. brown sugar
  • 3-4 Tbs. flour
  • 1/2 C. vinegar
  • 1/2 C. water

Directions

Cover and simmer cabbage for 35-40 minutes until tender.  Fry bacon until crisp.  Drain and crumble.  Add sugar, flour, vinegar, and water to bacon drippings.  Stir to blend.  Cook until thickened. Pour sauce over cooked cabbage.


Serve with: Roast Pork with Rosemary & Garlic
