8-10 scones


  • 1 1/2 oz. plus 1 tsp. butter
  • 2 C flour
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 3/4 C. Cheddar cheese (grated)
  • 5/8 C. milk

Preheat the oven to 450 degrees. Sift the flour, baking powder and salt into a mixing bowl. Add the butter, cut into small pieces. Rub the butter into flour mixture with your fingertips until the mixture resembles coarse bread crumbs. With a table knife, stir in the cheese and milk to form a soft dough. Form the dough into balls by hand. Cut the dough in to 8 pieces and form each piece into a 1/2 inch thick circle. Place the circles of dough, spaced well apart on a baking sheet. Bake for 10-15 minutes or until they have risen and are golden brown. Serve immediately.
