Swiss Chard with Chick Peas

Ingredients
- 2 bunches Swiss chard
- 1/4 C. olive oil
- 1 med. onion, chopped
- 3 garlic cloves, chopped
- 1 16-oz. can chick peas, rinsed and drained
- 1 14-oz. can Italian peeled tomatoes, drained and chopped
- 1 C. water
- 3/4 tsp. salt
- 1/4 tsp. pepper
Directions
Separate the stems from leaves of chard. Slice the stems into 2-inch pieces. Set the leaves aside. In a large saucepan, cook chard stems in boiling, salted water for 2 minutes. Add the chard leaves and cook 3 minutes longer. Drain well. In a large frying pan, heat oil over medium heat. Add onion and cook 2-3 minutes, or until softened. Add garlic and cook 1 minute longer. Add Swiss chard, chick peas, tomatoes and water. Partially cover and simmer for 12 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.
