This is a delicious appetizer to make for Valentine's Day!

  • 1 garlic clove
  • 1 lb. gruyere cheese, shredded or grated
  • nutmeg, grated
  • 1 C. dry white wine
  • 3 Tbs. cornstarch
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 C. kirsch

Rub chafing dish with cut garlic clove. Add wine and heat over boiling water until bubbly. Mix cheese, cornstarch, salt and nutmeg. Add wine slowly, stirring constantly until cheese melts and blends. Add kirsch last. Stir until thick and creamy, about 20 minutes. Keep fondue warm over a candle or in a chafing dish or fondue pot. Spear bite-size pieces of bread on long handled forks and dip into the fondue, twirling to coat well.
