  • Sounds great. My husband can't eat red meat so I'm going to try it with ground turkey. Thanks for the recipe!

  • I am really curious, shyanne: if you dont put ground beef, tomato, lettuce, or cheese in your taco salads, what do you use? You said only the doritos make it a taco salad.

  • I make a similar version and serve cold. I cook meat w/taco season and refrigerate. I dice green onions, roma tomatoes, grate med. chedder cheese, drained/rinsed can kidney beans, can of drained sliced black olives and crush a bag of tortilla chips. Minutes before serving, I combine all of the above and add a either Kraft Catalina dressing (low cal. ok) or Hidden Valley Ranch and mix.until all is coated. Great for pot lucks or outdoor. There is never any left.

  • You can buy tortilla strips in the bag;also, spicy ranch dressing is what I like to use on taco salads. As for the negative comments, this is not presented as "diet food, low cal, etc." you should not expect such from a taco recipe. Mexican food is SELDOM low cal, but it is delicious food.

  • i made this recipe Wishbone 1000 Island dressing and did not liike it. I think the dressing gave it a taste that I did not care for. My son did not care for it also. I do like Taco salads. I have had several different ones but was disappointed in this one.

  • I love Taco Salads and when I make them, instead of using store bought chips, I use the flour tortillas and I cook them in my Fry Daddy, and I use a Big laddle (metal) to form the bowl in the middle of them!
It don't take but a very few minutes to cook them, so if you try these, watch them very close or they will burn! Use 350 for the temp.!
I've even used Bushes hot chili beans instead of refried or any other kind! But Tonight I think I'll try the white northern beans just to see If I like th

  • I make taco salad all the time. But I add a can of drained kidney beans. When browning the ground beef, I add a packet of taco seasoning mix, and diced onions. I keep the lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, and Doritos or plain tortilla chips separate. That way you can add to your desired taste. We also use Catalina Dressing, according to taste. And if desired, a little sour cream on top. Keeping everything separate till serving, makes for a nice crisp lettuce, and crunchy chips.

  • Yes, always be nice. Recipe sounds good. Will try it, but will need to cut some fat out by using a little LIGHT dressing, plain tortilla chips (about 1/2 bag) and lite cheddar or montery jack cheese. You can experiment with any type of recipe. Just go for it! Some kids can eat this type of food, but some of us adults need to cut saturated fats, etc. and a little portion control never hurt anyone!

  • P.S.- It sounds like Cholesterol goulash. The vision of this mixture as I read the instructions (picture it) is unappetizing.

  • A co-worker of mine made this for a pot luck and I tried it at home myself and it was a hit! I added a taco season packet to the meat and used a light Catalina dressing. Next time I may add some black beans and corn to make it more "Taco Salad" like. Overall.. very yummy.
