  • 1 lb ziti pasta
  • Salt
  • 3 1/2 cups tomato sauce
  • 1 lb mozzarella, half cut into 1/2-inch cubes and half thinly sliced
  • 3/4 cup freshly grated parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • Pinch red pepper flakes

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Lightly oil a 9x13 baking dish. Bring a large pot of water to a boil and salt generously. Boil pasta until tender but slightly firm and drain. Toss pasta with marinara sauce, cubed mozzarella, half the parmesan cheese, black pepper, and pepper flakes. Transfer pasta to baking dish, and cover the top of the pasta with the sliced mozzarella and remaining parmesan cheese. Bake about 30 minutes, until lightly browned.
