Tinfoil Dinners

Perfect for camping in the wilderness or a bonfire in the backyard, these dinners are a backpacker's favorite.  This is a great meal for campers because you can put anything inside the tinfoil to cook. Feel free to substitute you favorite ingredients (canned or fresh).

Ingredients

  • Butter
  • 1 large steak, any cheap cut will do (tofu is also great for vegetarians)
  • 1 large piece tinfoil (use 1 piece per person, so adjust accordingly)
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 can of potatoes, cut up (or fresh)
  • 1 can of mushrooms, cut up (or fresh)
  • 1 can of peas, drained
  • Shredded cheese
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Celery salt (optional)
  • Tabasco sauce (optional)

Directions

Lay tinfoil flat and coat non-shiny side with thin layer of butter to prevent burning. Place meat/tofu in the middle of the foil and pile cut up veggies on and around the center. Sprinkle cheese on top. Fold tinfoil carefully and be careful not to rip. If you have access to a grill, just stick it on. If you have access to a campfire, make sure you have strong, hot coals and rest on grate above or in the coals themselves. Leave in for 15-30 minutes depending on the fire, but check on meat periodically. Open and enjoy!
