Toasted Egg

It's quick, easy and tastes good. You get your toast and egg all together and only use one pan.

  • 1 egg
  • 1 slice bread
  • 3 Tbs. shortening or vegetable oil
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. pepper

Heat the shortening orvegetable oil in skillet. Tear a hole out of center of bread; put bread in skillet, with the piece that was torn out beside it. Quickly crack one egg over the center of bread, letting the yolk drop into the hole in bread. The whites should spread out over the edge of the slice of bread. let cook on one side approximately 2 minutes. then flip it over to cook on other side the same amount of time.When finished, the bread should be medium brown and the whites should be done. The best way to eat it is to put it on your plate with the bread side up. Take your fork and poke a hole in the yolk. Spread the yolk all over the bread, salt & pepper it to taste. Caution: There will already be some salt from the shortening and the bread, so if you are on a low sodium diet then you may want to try it plain or with just pepper.
