  • 3/4 C. butter
  • 1 C. brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 2 1/4 C. flour
  • 2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. ground cloves
  • 1 tsp. ground ginger
  • 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • granulated sugar
  • 4 Tbs. molasses

Cream butter and brown sugar. Add egg and molasses.  Beat in dry ingredients except granulated sugar.  Chill dough for a few hours.  Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Roll dough by hand into small balls.  Roll in granulated sugar. To flatten, press with bottom of glass that has been dipped in water.  Bake on ungreased cookie sheet for 10 minutes or until lightly browned.  Remove to rack to cool.
