Top-Notch Snickerdoodles Recipe

I originally found this recipe on the blog Bake or Break. She had adapted it from a Nigella Lawson recipe. The cookie comes out more cake-like and definitely isn't chewy. But the nutmeg adds special flavor, especially around the holidays.

  • 1 2/3 C. all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 tsp. ground nutmeg
  • 3/4 tsp.baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 C. butter, at room temperature
  • 1/3 C. granulated sugar, + 2 Tbs. for rolling cookies
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1 Tbs. cinnamon

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line or grease baking sheets and set aside.

Combine flour, nutmeg, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.

Beat butter and 1/3 C. sugar until creamy. Add egg and vanilla. Stir in dry ingredients until smooth and just combined. Do not over-stir or the dough will become crumbly.

Mix together cinnamon and 2 Tbs. of sugar. Pinch dough into walnut-sized pieces and roll into balls. Roll each ball in cinnamon/sugar mixture, and place on baking sheets.

Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, or until golden brown. Cool on baking sheets for one minute, then cool completely on a wire rack.

  • Snickerdoodles are good at any occation..Never thought to add nutmeg to them....sounds good enough to eat!

  • I am so excited that I found this recipe - from the picture they look just like the ones i learned to bake in middle school (soooo many years ago) :) - all the recipes i've found turn into flat cookies, these look like they hold their shape, which they are supposed to. I can't wait to try this recipe later today - will let you know!! (i keep the nutmeg out myself too - don't care for it...they are better without). THANK YOU!
