  • 4 large potatoes, peeled and cut into strips
  • 1 C. all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. pepper
  • 1 C. milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 qt. vegetable oil
  • 1 1/2 lb. cod fillets

Preheat oil in large pot to 350 degrees F. Add potatoes in a medium bowl filled with cold water. Combine flour, baking powder, salt and pepper. Mix in milk and egg. Stir until mixture is smooth. Let it stand for 20 minutes. Fry potatoes in oil until tender. Drain on paper towels. Dip fish in batter and fry on hot oil until golden brown. Drain on paper towels. Fry potatoes again for 2 minutes to add more crispness. Serve with tartar sauce.
