  • 6 egg whites
  • 1/8 tsp. cream of tartar
  • 1 C. white sugar
  • 1 Tbs. cornstarch
  • 2 tsp. distilled white vinegar
  • 1 1/4 C. heavy cream, chilled
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 2 tsp. powdered sugar
  • 1 bottle chocolate sauce
  • Peeled orange slices for topping

Preheat your oven to 400 degrees F. Beat egg whites in glass bowl until stiff and glossy. Mix with cream of tartar, white sugar and cornstarch. Gradually beat in egg whites. Sprinkle vinegar over egg white mixture. Fold it in very gently. Pile meringue in prepared pan. Place in oven and immediately turn down to 250 degrees. Bake for 80 to 90 minutes. Allow meringue to cool. Place on serving platter. Whip cream, vanilla extract and powdered sugar until thick and firm. Gently spread over the meringue. Pour chocolate sauce over and sprinkle with orange slices. Chill before serving.
