Tremendous Italian Casserole Recipe

While served over potatoes, this dish has all the flavors of Italian cooking including spaghetti sauce, basil, and oregano.

  • 1 1/2 lbs. ground beef
  • 1 32-oz jar spaghetti sauce
  • 1/3 c. water
  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. basil
  • 1 tsp. oregano leaves
  • 1 tsp. sugar
  • 1/4 tsp. pepper
  • 5 medium potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 8 oz. shredded mozzarella cheese

Brown ground beef and drain. Add spaghetti sauce, water, salt, basil, oregano, sugar, and pepper. Cook two minutes more. In a baking dish or crockpot, evenly spoon 1/3 meat mixture, arrange 1/2 of potatoes on top. Repeat layers, ending w/ meat mixture. Repeat layers, ending with meat mixture. Cover dish tightly with foil (if using oven). Bake at 375F for 1 hour or cook on low in crockpot all day or until potatoes are tender. Remove foil, sprinkle mixture evenly with Mozzarella cheese, bake 10 minutes more, or until cheese melts.
