Valentine's Sugar Cookies

A little bit of almond extract adds a touch of nutty flavor to these Valentine's Day cookies.

  • 1 C. butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 C. confectioners' sugar
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp. almond extract
  • 2 1/2 C. all-purpose flour

In a mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar. Add egg and extracts. Stir in flour; mix well. Chill for several hours. On a lightly floured surface, roll dough to1/4 inch thickness; cut with a 2 1/2 or 3 inch heart shaped cookie cutter. Place on ungreased baking sheets; sprinkle with red sugar, if desired. Bake at 375 degrees for 8-10 minutes or until lightly browned.
