What’s For Dinner? A 30-Minute Salisbury Steak!

That’s right! We’ve put together a Salisbury steak recipe that will go from cutting board to table in under 30 minutes.

Ingredients

  • For Roast
  • 1 and 1/2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 cup chopped mushrooms
  • 1 medium or large onion, chopped
  • 1 egg
  • ⅓ cup crushed croutons
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tbsp mustard
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp kosher salt
  • ¾ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon oil, for frying
  • For the gravy
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 2 ½ cups mushrooms (sliced)
  • 1 tsp minced garlic
  • 2 ½ cups beef broth
  • 2 ½ tbsp flour

Directions

Start by chopping the onion and mushrooms. Take 1/4 cup of it, and add it to a large bowl. Set the rest aside for the gravy. Add 1 cup of mushrooms to the large bowl, set aside the rest for gravy.

In the large bowl (containing ¼ cup onions and 1 cup mushrooms) add your ground beef, 1 egg, crushed croutons, tomato paste, mustard, 1 clove garlic. Use your hands to combine the meat with the onions and mushrooms. Shape the content into into 6 patties.

Heat a large skillet containing 1 tbsp oil over medium heat. Make sure the base is coated, and when the oil begins to shimmers, add as many meat patties as will comfortably fit on your pan.

Sear patties about 2 min per side. Remove the patties to a plate and repeat until all are cooked.

Add 1 tbsp butter to the now-vacated hot skillet. Add your remaining onions and sliced mushrooms and saute for about 5 minutes to begin your gravy. Then, add garlic and saute another minute.

Add your beef broth and flour to the skillet and mix to combine. Stir and cook for a couple minutes until the mix simmers.

Finally, add your cooked steaks back into the pan with your gravy. Turn the heat to a low simmer and cook for another 5 minutes or so. While this cooks prepare your instant mashed potatoes.

Sprinkle with chopped parsley and serve with instant mashed potatoes.
