A Classy Classic Club Sandwich

That's a triple alliteration there, so I think I should win some type of award. Anyway, the club sandwich was one of my favorites as a kid, which probably explains why I was so "husky." These sandwiches are fantastic, and I still enjoy them, just not as often!

Toast the bread in a toaster. Make sure the bread is well toasted (usually a 5-6 out of 10 or higher on my toaster). OPTIONAL: Cut the crusts off of the bread. Set the bread aside.

Slice the leaves of Romaine into pieces that will fit neatly into the sandwich.

To make the sandwiches, first spread a thin layer of mayonnaise over the bottom slice of the bread. Then top with a few pieces of lettuce, 2 slices of turkey, 2 slices of bacon, and top with some tomato slices. Spread some mustard on the top slice of bread and place it on top of the first level of the sandwich.

To make the second level, repeat the process, spreading mayonnaise on the top side of the bread that closed the first level. Repeat the layers, but instead of tomato on top, use avocado if desired.

Use a good serrated knife to slice the sandwiches into triangles. Gently push down on the sandwich sections and secure each using a toothpick.

Serve immediately with some fresh potato chips or French fries. Make sure to warn the diners about the the toothpicks prior to serving so they don't get a nasty and painful surprise.
