This is a great source of calcium as well as getting some fruit servings into your day.

  • 1/2 C. vanilla yogurt
  • 1/2 C. skim milk
  • 1/2 frozen banana
  • 1 C. frozen fruit: strawberries, blueberries, peaches, melon etc.
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract (optional)

Place the soy milk (or yogurt/skim milk) and banana in a blender and mix until smooth. Add the frozen fruit and blend until smooth.

Tip: You can peel, halve and freeze ripe bananas in a plastic freezer bags to use them for smoothies and banana bread.

  • I add Barleans Forti-Flax (flaxseed) and somtimes flavored fish oil for more nutrition. Using plain yogurt and honey has less sugar content and is just as tasty.

  • When I make this for a meal, I include 1/8-1/4 cup of oat bran to make it a 'stick to your ribs' meal. I can't taste the oat bran (the texture is a little different but not objectionable) and I don't get hungry before the next meal!
