  • Crust:
  • 3 C. flour
  • 1/4 C. sugar
  • 1/2 C. water
  • 2 C. shortening
  • Filling:
  • 6 lbs. apples (peeled, cored and sliced)
  • 1/2 C. sugar
  • 2 Tbs. cinnamon
  • 1/2 C. water
  • Caramel Sauce:
  • 1 C. light corn syrup
  • 1 1/4 C. packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 C. butter
  • 1 C. heavy whipping cream

Preheat oven at 350 degrees. Mix crust ingredients until they form a soft ball. Cut in half. Place flour on board and roll out dough. Combine filling ingredients in a large pot and cook over medium heat until apples are tender. Stir constantly. Place one crust on baking dish. Add filling. Top with second crust. Bake for 45 minutes.

While baking, heat ingredients except whipping cream to boiling over low heat. Stir constantly. Boil 5 minutes. Stir in whipping cream. Heat to boiling. Cool for 30 miunutes. When casserole is done, garnish with caramel sauce.
