Classic Mint Julep

The classic mint julep is a staple found at the Kentucky derby. This cocktail provides a delicate balance of sweetness, mint and bourbon. The mix of simple syrup, alcohol and mint is extremely easy to make and should not be saved just for Derby Day anymore. The three ingredient recipe takes a little more prep work than just pouring into a glass, but it is one that is sure to please.

Place 5 or 6 mint leaves into the bottom of a pint glass. Add the sugar and crush it up slightly with a drink muddler. Pack the glass with crushed ice and then pour bourbon over it. Stir the mix generously until it starts to frost. Add more ice. Stir again. A perfect garnish is a mint sprig. This -will add visual appeal as well as a strong mint aroma.
