These cookies are chocolaty and chewy with a taste of anise. Delicious and perfect for Christmas!

  • 2 C. flour
  • 1 C. cocoa
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 1/4 C.(2 1/2 sticks) butter, softened
  • 2 C. sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 1/2 tsp. anise extract
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 C. semi sweet chocolate morsels
  • 1 1/2 C. chopped walnuts

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix together flour, cocoa, cinnamon, baking soda and salt. In a separate mixing bowl, beat butter and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs, anise and vanilla; beat well. Gradually add flour mixture, beating well. Stir in morsels and walnuts. Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheets. Bake 8-10 minutes. Do not over bake. Cool on cookie sheets 5 minutes. Remove to wire rack. Cool completely.

  • I have read this recipe over and over and haven't seen the anise amount anywhere. It seems to have been omitted. This recipe sounds delicious and I want to try it for Christmas, to add to my many different varieties that I'll be making.
