This classic combination will make your day! Cod filets are coated in a homemade batter and fried to a golden perfection. You can continue to cook your fries for an extra 2 minutes if you prefer them extra crispy.

  • 4 large potatoes
  • 1 C. flour
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. kosher salt
  • 1 tsp. freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 C. whole milk
  • 1 cage-free egg
  • 1 qt. vegetable oil
  • 1 1/2 lb. cod fillets

Peel potatoes and slice into thin strips. Transfer strips to a large bowl and fill with chilled water until potatoes are completely covered. Set bowl aside. Combine flour, baking soda, salt and ground pepper in a separate bowl. Mix in egg and milk. Stir until mixture is smooth and ingredients are well blended. Allow batter to sit at room temperature for 20 minutes.

Meanwhile, warm oil in a deep-fryer to 350 degrees F. Remove potatoes from water and place in oil. Cook for 4 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from heat and place on paper towel to drain.

Coat fish in batter and place in deep-fryer. Cook for 6 minutes or until fish is flaky and golden brown. Set fish aside on paper towel to drain. Serve fish with fries.
