Try my grandpa's original Irish soda bread recipe. It is a must at every St. Patrick's Day feast, or add on to any Irish meal.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 C. butter
  • 3 C. flour
  • 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp. cream of tartar
  • 1 1/2 C. raisins
  • 1/2 C. sugar
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 1/2 C. buttermilk
  • 1 Tbs. caraway seeds

Directions

Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add flour sifted with soda, baking powder, salt, and cream of tartar, alternating with buttermilk, beating smooth after each addition. Stir in raisins. Grease a 9x5x3-inch loaf pan. Pour in batter. Bake until golden at 350 degrees for about 60 minutes.
