You don’t need to use premade Sloppy Joe sauce anymore. Here is an easy, homemade version of a childhood favorite with a more grown-up, well-rounded sweet and spicy flavor.

  • 1 pound of ground beef
  • 1 can of diced tomatoes
  • 1 tablespoon of dark brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon of hot sauce
  • 1 teaspoon of onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon of garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Begin by browning the ground beef over medium heat for ten minutes. Then add the diced tomatoes, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper and allow to simmer for 15 minutes or until the sauce has thickened. Serve on toasted sesame buns with a side of fries.
