This classic Mexican holiday dish doesn't have to be complicated! Use this 5 ingredient recipe to make tamales simple and delicious. Garnish with your choice of salsas or sour cream.

  • 1 1/2 lb. cooked tamale meat filling
  • 2 C. masa harina
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 2/3 C. lard
  • 1 pkg. dried corn husks

Soak the corn husks in a bowl of warm water. Meanwhile, beat the lard with a tablespoon of water or broth until fluffly. Mix the masa harina and baking powder in another bowl. Season with a pinch of salt and stir into the lard mixture. Spread the dough over the corn husks and put 1 tablespoon meat filling in the center. Fold in the husks and steam for 1 hour. Remove the tamales from the husks and serve with your choice of salsas.
