  • 1 package puff pastry dough, thawed
  • 1 C. chopped strawberries
  • 1 C. sugar
  • 1 Tbs. lemon zest
  • 1 Tbs. cornstarch
  • 1 C. spreadable cream cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 2 Tbs. water, divided

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Roll out pastry dough in a rectangle shape. Place on a baking sheet. Cut 3-inch-long lines on the outer edges inward towards the middle. In a small saucepan, heat the strawberries, sugar and lemon zest on low. Stir until sugar is dissolved. Bring to a boil. Once at a boil, allow to boil for 2-3 minutes. Reduce heat to low for 2-3 minutes. Remove from heat.

In a small mixing bowl, mix cornstarch and 1 Tbs. of water. Add to the jam mixture and let stand for 10-15 minutes. Spread cream cheese evenly in center of puff pastry. Pour jam mixture on top. Alternate folding sides towards the center creating a crisscross effect. Mix egg and 1 Tbs. of water in a small bowl. Brush puff pastry with egg wash. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown.

Let cool for 5-10 minutes and serve.
